Program Dates
This program runs for 8 weeks (1 week of orientation and 7 weeks of internship).

Program Fee and Financial Assistance

Program fee: $4,500* (includes orientation, lodging and 2 meals/day. Air fare, incidental expenses and extra meals are not included).

** Personal costs: Students should budget $1,100 - $1,500 for personal expenses (including independent traveling, incidental expenses, individual meals, and all other activities done outside of the program), plus about $1,400 for round-trip airfare.

* Harvard undergraduate(s) selected through the IOP will receive a stipend of $5,000 to cover the program fee and additional expenses.

* The Harvard undergraduate selected through the DRCLAS-LARC internship will receive a stipend of $5,000 to cover the program fee and additional expenses.

If you are seeking financial support for your international activities, please investigate Harvard Funding Sources database. Students interested in and eligible for funding from the Office of Career Services (OCS) may indicate this on the DRCLAS Summer Programs Application Supplement Form, and do not need to apply separately for OCS funding.

In addition, for students with very high financial need, DRCLAS may be able to subsidize the costs of the DRCLAS program on a case by case basis.

CASA Argentina students can explore a variety of social, cultural, political and professional opportunities beyond the classroom. Students can participate in non-credit internship or community service opportunities, linked to the students' area of academic studies, such as in community and grassroots organizations, cultural, health, and environmental institutions, and international agencies.

Reflection on my time in Argentina

By: Peter Morrissey, SIP Argentina 2019 (Harvard '21)

On my last night in Buenos Aires this summer, my host parents invited over all of the extended family one last time for a sendoff dinner in the apartment. After dinner, 9-year-old Belisario went over to the home computer, typing away at something. Maybe twenty minutes later, while I was in the back bedroom watching How to Train Your Dragon for the second time with my 29-year-old host sister (Angie) and the grandkids, Belisario ran in to...

Mi Experiencia en Buenos Aires

By: Rachel Danner, CASA Argentina Spring 2019 (Brown '20)

The day I arrived in Buenos Aires I had the best ice cream I’ve had in my life. It was passion fruit flavored (maracuyá in Spanish) and it had the seeds of the fruit included, which added the perfect extra crunch. I was in awe of the culinary prowess and explosion of flavors. I was also terrified. I had just gotten off of an eleven hour flight to Argentina and had arrived at a 8th floor apartment in the heart of the city and met my somewhat (very) eccentric host mother. I knew no one,...

The Stories We Tell

By Matthew Kind, CASA Argentina Fall 2018 (Harvard University '20)

I believe every study abroad student has a, "smack you in your face, make a fool out of yourself, welcome to a new country, WHAAAMM" moment that lets you know you’re away from Harvard and in the real world. Mine came during my first week of class at the largest public university in South America, La Universidad de Buenos Aires Facultad de Derecho. My professor...

Falling in love with Buenos Aires and Argentina through my study abroad experience

By Claudia Villalona, CASA Argentina Fall 2017 (Brown '19)

I arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina for my semester abroad on a chilly and wet winter’s day in the middle of July, having no idea what the next six months would bring. Looking back almost a year later, it is still hard for me to precisely pinpoint what captured my heart and compelled me to stay for another semester. Nonetheless, my time abroad was an experience that truly changed my life: I immersed myself in a culture that was unfamiliar to me and I learned so much...

Housing Information:
To enhance the cultural and linguistic experience, Harvard students live with local host families in Argentina. At the host family home or apartment, students will typically receive room and board, two meals a day, and laundry privileges. The housing coordinator is available to make the appropriate matches that include opportunities to express preferences (such as smoking/non-smoking, pets/no-pets, children/no-children). Typically, these are families who have experience hosting international students. Once you have confirmed your participation in the program, please send the housing form to the housing coordinator Patricia Sardo at psardo@bahomestay.com.ar

Program: To ensure students' smooth transition into life abroad, the DRCLAS Regional Office organizes a week-long Orientation Program and provides ongoing support throughout the summer. The program also provides bi-weekly activities, to deepen cultural understanding.

Students who participate in this innovative program will experience full linguistic, social, and cultural immersion by living with host families and working alongside Argentines in a variety of internship sites. During the internship, students will be paired with a mentor who will oversee their work.  Past students’ experiences include internships in the areas of Economic Development, Education, Human Rights, and Research. Please see below for a full list of possible internship opportunities.

Eligibility: The program is limited to 20 undergraduate students with a minimum of an intermediate level of Spanish (at least two semesters of Spanish at Harvard or their equivalent).  Through this program, one student will be placed at each internship site; participants must be autonomous, proactive, flexible, and willing to adapt to change based on the needs of their organization.

Deadline:  February 2, 2020 @ 11:59pm

Student Testimonials"Would you recommend this program to other students? Why or why not?”

"Yes!! One of the highlights of my Harvard experience so far."

"SIP offers students a summer of their own making in an incredible part of the world with an excellent support team of mentors and peers. I couldn't have asked for a more rewarding two months abroad!"

"This experience is one of the best of my life, this immersion has taught me a lot about myself and how I can grow professionally."

"SIP is the perfect synchronization of a model work experience in your chosen career and living experience abroad. Seeing how these two aspects converge and diverge and how they relate to personal goals and development is what made this program a top recommnedation for me."
